This pic gives new meaning to the phrase, "I'll eat my hat." Kaylee is busy chewing on her hat and waving to the crowds.


Bye bye!

The businesses in Winghaven all got together for a little trick or treating fun for the kids. So I hurried to finish sewing the kids costumes and packed everyone in the car. Each business had a little booth out of the trunk of their car that gave the kids candy and the parents information on the company.

We saw a few of our favorite places. Our pediatrician's office was there. We saw our dentist and Sophia's dancing school along with many other local businesses. Each booth had some kind of little game or face painting or bounce house for the kids. It was a really fun free afternoon.

Sisters in matching outfits

So I made Sophia a new outfit and had plenty of fabric left to make one for Kaylee too.

The pink and black top to match the Polk dot skirt birthday surprise

I finally had a chance to sew for fun late last night. I made a matching shirt last night in pink with contrasting ruffles that match the skirt ruffle. I used a basic shirt style and then added the ruffles to the neck and sleeves. This was so much fun to create and sew for my daughter. I stayed up to finish it. I still need to make the matching hair accessory that I imagined.

The Giraffe Purse

So here it is! The Giraffe Purse has arrived on the scene by way of the sewing machine and serger. This is an original design that was created by my mom and I.

I have always wanted to make original purses and tote bags. I have made a few along my sewing journey and each time I make one; it gets easier. Not only do I discover new materials and better ways to accomplish what I want, I also learn new tricks of the trade and methods that work for me in accomplishing my goal. Making purses is super fun and I can create the style to fit my client's personality which makes them each unique and customized for the consumer.

I can't wait to start my next design. Maybe someday I will get one of the computer programs to design my own patterns rather than creating by trial and error like I do now to achieve the same end result.

Ruffled polka dot skirt

Today I made this little ruffled polka dot skirt out of a scrap of fabric without a pattern on my serger while the kids napped. I simply made a skirt and then serged a double-sided ruffle with serged edges.

Nursing wrap

I made a nursing wrap yesterday.. It was so hot outside, 98 degrees that  we were stuck in the basement keeping cool and so I thought might as well make good use of my time and made this in about an hour. Now, my daughter wants a "dress" like Mommy's.

I always thought stores charged too much for nursing wraps so I always just used a blanket or a towel to cover up while nursing. I was right. I made this for less than you can buy one.

I cut the fabric with my rotary cutter and mat. I serged all the raw edges and turned them under, 1/4 inch on all sides. This is three dimensional although you can't tell in the photo above. I made a casing at the top and used stiff boning to create the peak-a-boo window at the top.   Then, I created an adjustable strap by doubling the size of the buckle, sewing a tube wrong sides together.  I turned it right side out and sewed it closed and wound it through the buckle on one side and sewed it to the top of the wrap.

Puppy skirt

I whipped up this little skirt this morning. This was a cute little scrap of fabric we found in the remnants bin a couple months ago for less than a dollar and Sophia loved it so we made a skirt. I serged this skirt on the serger this morning.
