Sewing has been a little tough lately since kaylee was born. Here is my latest. I serged a quick little sundress for Sophia with Disney princesses.

Heirloom pillowcase

This week I took a class to learn how to make heirloom pillowcases. I learned some interesting skills for serging lace. Here is the pillowcase I made.

Hairbows made on my serger

I have been experimenting and playing with different fabrics and techniques on my serger. Lately, I have enjoyed making hairbows for my daughter. Here are just a few of the ones I have made for her.



Bow made on serger with a rolled edge.



The blue Bow with a white pearl crown rayon edge above is made with a decorative stitch edge on the serger.



The pink bow is made on the serger using a lettuce edging technique.

Fancy baby burp cloths

I used flannel on one side and a baby cloth diaper on the other side for extra absorbency.




The blanket binding is made out of pink gingham flannel sewn on my serger with a rolled edge stitch.



Today I  wanted to try something fun so I made fancy baby burp cloths. I used a try-fold baby diaper and flannel. On my serger I made the blanket binding out of the pink and white gingham. Then, I assembled the fancy baby burp cloths. It was a little windy outside when I took these photos and the fabric was blowing around and it was a bit too cold to stay out and redo so it doesn't look very straight in the picture. It is much cuter in person.

Scarves and Hair Tieback

Today I made a few quick fun little scarves and hair tieback bows with my serger. I am learning a new technique -  rolled hems on my serger and wanted to practice on some small stuff before I made a larger project with this technique. Can I say, I just love, love, love, my serger. I can do so many things one wouldn't dream of making on my regular sewing machine. I also learned an exciting new trick on my serger beside this one today. More to come when have a chance to make a project out of that one.  Hint, gathering fabric is much easier on a serger than a classic sewing machine.  Yahoo!

I made Sophia a new hat during her naptime today. Here, she looks pretty happy to model it for me.

Sophie Doll gets a new Jumper

Sophia asked me to make some clothes for her dolls. I thought I would start with an easy item and see how it went.  I am happy to report that I was able to finish the jumper shown here in blue.   This little jumper was made on both the serger and the sewing machine. Seams were sewn on the serger and the topstitching was sewn on the sewing machine. The buttons are hand sewn to the fabric and are just for decoration not functional.  The closure in the back is velcro so that Sophia can easily dress and undress her doll.

 Once I fix my serger, I may make a pretty blouse for her doll to wear under the jumper.  I have been working on my serger for a week and have not been able to fix my issues.  It may be a few more weeks before I can do much with it if I end up having it serviced. 

Ladybug Bib for Baby Sikes 2

I have been wanting to make some baby bibs for the soon to be new arrival in our family so I made this little bib. I know babies can be quite messy so I may need to make another one just to save in case this one is ruined.  This is my favorite thing I have ever made.

This bib is made of cotton fabric with batting as a lining to absorb spills, etc. The face is somewhat appliqued and hand embroidered with embroidery thread since I don't have an embroidery machine yet. Maybe someday I will get an embroidery machine.  I serged most of this project except for the top.  I just love how fast the serger makes projects go and I love the strength and durability of the seams and stitches.   The legs and ties are made of ribbons.

Baby Sikes 2 Nano

Sophia gently informed me that her baby sister was going to need her own Nano.  For those that are reading that don't know, my daughter has named her security blanket Nano and felt the soon to be arriving baby should have one too.  Nano lately has become quite human in that it eats at the table on a chair, loves grapes, goes on the the doll potty chair and even gets sad sometimes.  Who knew?   So, I found a scrap of soft flannel fabric and started sewing. I made a small lightweight blanket for baby Sikes 2 so she will have her very own blanket.

With this project I learned how to use blanket binding which I have never used in sewing before. It was harder than I expected but fun to learn.
